Meet Coach Shane Johnson

shane johnsonWHY I DO WHAT I DO

As a man I have experienced and continue to experience the ups & downs, the highs & lows as well as the triumphs & defeats men encounter in life. I know what it is to strive for significance and success while fearing failure and battling self doubt. I know what it's like trying to balance my career aspirations with the time I spend on relationships. I have fought the fear of rejection and dealt with the hurts and pains people have caused. I feel the craving for freedom, fun and adventure and the conflict it creates with the need for discipline, routine and consistency. Because of this and more, I readily identify with men, I empathize with their challenges and I get excited about helping them reach their goals and dreams!

shane johnsonI also care tremendously about other people, our society and the world we are creating around us! I gain great satisfaction in seeing individuals change for the better and in turn positively impacting those around them. I believe there is no better way of achieving this than helping men gain success in a positive, healthy and right way! As men we have a tremendous influence not only in the business world, but also in our personal lives and the community we live in. This includes our fellow co-workers, our employees, our clients, our family members, our friends, our children and the women in our lives! When we gain success in a positive, healthy and right way we can and will impact others in a positive, healthy and right way as well! This is legacy I want to leave and the life of significance I want to live and it is to this end that I strive diligently and passionately!

Relater - I both enjoy and excel at creating comfortable one on one interactions built on the corner stones of open communication, authenticity and trust that are completely void of assumptions or judgements.

Activator- I like taking action and I'm good at getting others take action as well! I especially enjoy problem solving with others who are willing to take on their challenges, get the ball rolling and make purposeful, positive and healthy changes!

Strategic - I use this skill to see things from a different angle, fully assess the situation, create varying alternative choices of action and then select the best and most effective way to proceed in order for you to get what you are looking for!

Command - I will help guide and lead you through difficult challenges and goals and help you to act with boldness and courage on your way to becoming your most powerful and best self!

Significance - I constantly strive to help others live a meaningful life of purpose and legacy. I believe that is only possible by making a critical and important decisions and actions i your life so that you can fully become who you are meant to be!

shane on the journey of lifeMY STORY: JOURNEY, DISCOVERY AND PURPOSE

Despite humid, 40 plus degree weather, poisonous insects, lack of sleep, cold showers, a small shack for living quarters and substandard food that caused me to continually lose weight, these challenges paled in comparison to what awaited me. I eventually found myself dealing with what I feared most; public speaking. Nonetheless, I volunteered to share my life story in front of over 600 people with only a minutes notice. My message was well received and as a result I began to have a new confidence and desire to impact people in a positive way. This was the culmination of spending nearly 2 months, 10,000 kms away from my home, in the poorest regions of Fiji and Tonga visiting hospitals, schools, villages, homes, radio stations and T.V. networks. I helped fix and clean buildings, spoke with and encouraged the sick as well as performed skits for the poor with a group of 10 others from Y.W.A.M. (Youth With A Mission). This was a far cry from the safe and comfortable life I was accustomed to in beautiful Victoria, B.C., Canada. As such it had a momentous impact on my life purpose and the goals I wished to accomplish.

Upon returning from YWAM in the spring of 2004 I set out to obtain a Business degree from the University of Victoria where I had previously received my Psychology degree 2 years earlier. It was here that I had yet another critical influential experience that started to further fuel my desire to influence others in positive ways. After another group member and I formulated a very impacting and interesting introduction to our presentation we were congratulated by many of my classmates. In fact, it impressed so many people that  the following year, the first thing my new group members (who hadn't even heard the presentation) said was, “we heard about your great introduction from last year”. I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised!

During the co-op portion of my Business degree, I took on the role of an Assistant Superintendent for a large residential/commercial development project in Victoria. Though I wasn't conveying life changing messages I was able to form close relationships with various sub trades and condominium purchasers and spoke into their lives on a personal level when I had the chance. However, as rewarding and challenging as the job was I still wasn't satisfied with the work I was doing.

shane johnson gaining life wisdomA NEW DIRECTION

After graduating with honors/distinction from the business program at the University of Victoria, I decided to move to the corporate atmosphere of Calgary Alberta where I thought I could make the best use of my new degree. After spending some time with a very large corporation I soon realized that I did not want to devote the next significant portion of my life simply working my way up the company ladder. I had larger dreams, ones that involved fundamentally different work and required a greater degree of freedom and flexibility.

After deciding to forgo a promotion I moved back to Victoria BC to embark on a career in Real Estate. This was something I envisioned would give me the financial and scheduling flexibility to help others more so than I had done in the past while simultaneously enabling me to assist clients in an extremely important aspect of their life; the search for their new home. Given my flexible schedule I soon volunteered with Big Brothers, a church run youth program for grade 11 and 12 boys and embarked on house building trips to poor and desolate regions of Mexico.

While my experience in Real Estate was positive, ultimately it did not afford me the degree of freedom I thought it might. Furthermore, there was a key component still missing; it wasn't meeting the criteria of making a life changing impact on others, something that was now on the forefront of my mind more than ever before. I wanted helping people to be the central focus of my career, something I could do everyday of my life. This led me to seek a new avenue for my passions and has ultimately led me to where I am today; a career in conducting seminars and coaching men.
